New Brunswicker’s are experiencing a very wet and dreary month of June so far, ask any fly fisherman though and you will see a smile from ear to ear. The river is in superb shape and still about 12 inches above normal . These great conditions are paving the way for good fishing for late June and July. We are catching fish now, mostly salmon but the grilse are showing up too. Cool temps, perfect conditions, the run is on. The Cains is still a little too high for good dry fly fishing but nymphs and streamers are still working well. Looks like July is going to be the best period for dry’s. Biggest Sea-run brook trout taken so far this month was 26 inches. Plenty of fish in the 12- 19 inch range though .
As it sometimes goes in this sport, we get too much of a good thing. Overnite
on June 10th brought us nearly 3 inches of rain, resulting in the river up app 3 feet above normal on both the Miramichi and Cains Rivers. This is obviously good for the water table but sure put the brakes on any productful fishing for a few days. Some rivers in southern NB are running chocolate brown indicating some major erosion somewhere up stream, but our two local rivers here appear to be normal, very high and fast but no sign of major erosion. We should be back on the water soon with tons of happy fish fresh from the ocean. As the water drops and warms up on the Cains the big sea-run brook trout will pool up and be ready for a dry fly, this week it looks like sink tip lines and streamers .
The Sea-Run Brook trout are here . Good water conditions on the Cains and an early spring did just what we had anticipated . The smaller fish 12 – 16 inches are in great numbers and within a few days we will be seeing the larger trophy size ( 16 – 26 inch ) .Note the silvery color of this 14 inch beauty taken on the lower Cains on May 30th .With more rain predicted and cooler temps we are due for some fantastic “Trophy Sea-Run Brook Trout ” fishing . Take advantage of our June discounts .
Reporting from Wilson’s on May 27th under cloudy sky’s with light rain . The rain and cool temps have been with us for nearly two weeks resulting in high water and setting the perfect stage for a great early run of Sea-Run brook trout and the famous Rocky Brook Run Atlantic Salmon . We have one reported Rocky Brooker taken two days ago and the trout are moving in as well . Last night was a beautiful evening with warm sunshine and the small ( 6- 12 inch ) trout feeding like crazy . I was lucky enough to hook and land a nice 19 inch trout . The next couple of weeks should be very good on both the Miramichi and Cains Rivers . We are offering special discounts for last minute reservations during the month of June .
Wilson’s is pleased to report that conditions are good for the early brook trout fishing. We have yet to see any Sea-Run brook trout but the small native brook trout are hitting well just off the ripps and where small gravel bars are exposed making for great feeding areas . We have been on the Cains a couple of times but with little success to date. The best of the Cains run will show up in the next few weeks and we will be there to enjoy. We are due for some good rains later this week which will set the stage for the famous Rocky Brook Atlantic Salmon run that will blast through McNamee soon .
