The “June Run” Is On
I guess we can say the “June Run ” is officially on . Doug got into three fish two days ago then three more this morning , one of which was this beautiful 36 inch hen . Est. weight of 15 pounds . Typical of this time of year the salmon are coming through in little runs , so no fish maybe today but then this happens to you the next day . It surprised me to hear from Karl that it was not caught on a green machine but my second choice , a black bear green butt . We are getting rain today so likely a raise of water is coming so lets hope not too much .
Atlantic salmon fly-fishing conditions for the Miramichi River near McNamee for June 27th . As predicted there is a good run of both salmon and grilse in . The water and air is pefect so the fish are moving well . Not staying long in the pools but long enough to get a fly over them for sure . Of course the green machine with white calf tail is the top fly . We still have a few openings till July 10th so you should take advantage of the great fishing and great discounts .

Atlantic salmon fly fishing conditions for the Miramichi River near McNamee for June 21st . We had a nice rain yesterday and the river is up app 4 inches this morning . We had a few anglers fishing through the weekend but the air temps very hot and the river warmed up . We had several fish on but very slow takes under these conditions . There seems to be a decent number of big salmon on the move and of course with the rise in water last night and cooler temps we are expecting good fishing this week . There are more showers called for over the next several days as well .
Atlantic salmon and sea-run brook trout fishing conditions for the Miramichi River near McNamee for June 16th . The water is down now to a normal June level and temps are ideal . The local boy’s are getting into a few nice size salmon but not in big numbers yet . Wilson’s first summer guests arrive this weekend for salmon fishing so I am sure we will have a good report next time . Trout numbers seem to be off on the Cains so far but that could be due to the high water lately , which is good for trout . There are reports of some monster trout on the Miramichi earlier in the month , some in the 7 – 8 pound range . Of course they are long gone by now from McNamee into the protected areas of the headwaters .
My recent report about the damaging effects of cleats, studs or pics on our canoes and flooring prompted some good feedback on the subject . Once again Orvis has come through with a solution to the problem and at the same time help reduce the spread of disease and evasive species into rivers and lakes . Orvis has developed a fantastic product where rubber-soled wadeing boots have studs that can be easily removed and reinstalled when needed . Wilson’s staff will have power tools on site to help you but we recommend that you also carry a simple nut driver for the job as well . The Orvis company has our rivers best interest at heart when reducing the number of felt sole boots in their line-up and Wilson’s support their efforts 100% . If you still wear felt sole waders please take the time to bleach them each time you visit a different river .
Atlantic salmon and sea-run brook trout fishing conditions for the Miramichi River at McNamee for June 12th .
The river is down to normal and in superb shape to move fish . Ther are very few anglers on the water yet so not much to report in way of numbers . The Miramichi Salmon Club had a few fresh salmon last weekend before the big rain . I missed the Miramichi sea-run trout this year but reports from Juniper area has been fantastic . I floated the upper Cains from Bantalor to Otter Brook on Wednesday and saw very few trout , but that will change for sure later in June , water levels on the Cains are above normal . High water is not the best for hooking trout but it serves the trout very well .
Atlantic salmon and sea-run brook trout fishing conditions for the Miramichi River at McNamee for June 6th . The river is up again this morning . Heavy rain overnight and more coming today is exactly what we need for the month of June . Still slow fishing for salmon but the Cains has been doing well . The big raise today will keep the “June run” on the move so we should expect good fishing once things settle down again . Not that high water hurts the fishing that much , I have had some of my best trout fishing on very high water , wet flys and whooly buggers seem to work best .
Pictured above is the latest and greatest product on the market to help anglers stay on their feet while fishing slippery conditions . Lucky for you , the Miramichi in the McNamee area is very easy to wade and very seldom slippery . As you can imagine this gear works great , BUT these boots tear the heck out of our cabin floors and canoes . Our beautiful 28 foot cedar strip canoes will not take this kind of abuse . These canoes are very expensive and we take great pride in keeping them in immaculate condition .
This gear will not be allowed at Wilson’s , we will be inspecting your footwear to make sure . Not to worry though folks , we have plenty of good quality Orvis felt sole waders on site that you are welcome to use .
