Miramichi on the rise
Friday, September 28th, 2007

It rained all night resulting in a start to a decent raise and also getting a little color back . The light dirt flowing is coloring it up which is as important as a rise . It does not look like we will get much more than 6 or 8 inches but it is badly needed and will surely move more fish . There are fish in all our pools but hooking up has been tough for the past few days .
One fish hooked this morning on an Ally’s Schrimp .

Water getting down but fishing still fair
Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

The water is getting down a little making some pools hard to fish but most are still doing well . The fish are slow to take for most anglers but some guy’s over the last weekend hit it good . Walter U. landed three nice salmon at Cold Water one morning .Fish are taking the small fly’s best . Rain is due for this week which will perk things up for sure . Keep your fingers crossed for the late Cains River run too , we will need a raise of water soon to get the fish up there .

The Ruckno party hit it big at Wilson’s
Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

dsc00011_resize.jpgThe Ruckno group hit it right on again this year . Upon arrival the water was up app 6 inches and there were fish in all pools . As the water dropped the boy’s got into them good . Hooked 20 fish in three days and landed 16 , a few of them over 15 pounds . Joe hooked and landed 1 grilse and 2 salmon on one AM shift . The guy’s are really enjoying the good fishing and the many pools along Wilson’s five mile stretch . It is nice to have several new pools to choose from each time out , it gives anglers a renewed enthusiasm when they know the pool has not been fished for a day or so and their fly is the first one over the fish that day . It seems that there is no one particular fly working best , small fly’s and even bombers are producing .

Miramichi is up , fish are moving

The water is up this morning 2 inches and looks like it will continue rising slowly for a few more hours . Yesterday was our best day in two weeks seeing fish in all of our pools . The boys got into several grilse and one nice MSW salmon . We have sunny skies forecast for the week but perfect temperatures . ( 14- 19 C )

Not great but we are still catching every day
Friday, September 14th, 2007

The water is once agin down to normal early fall level so with cool temps , good pools and fish in most of them your day at Wilson’s is still successful . And , we are catching a few big fish as well . The fish appear to be fairly fresh and the bigger salmon are showing up now . The best luck has been on small 10′s and 12′s and the most patient of anlgers are getting into fish on bombers too . Rain is forecast soon so with a raise of water the fall run will increase for sure .

A few fresh-run salmon moving
Saturday, September 8th, 2007

The river is in great shape as we enter the early fall period . The last raise of water ( Aug31 ) has stayed with us and fresh fish began to come in . Reports from down river are most encouraging , especially Shawn Betts landing a huge 49 inch hen salmon just two days ago . Our biggest salmon two years ago was a 32 pounder taken on Sept 10th , so anytime from now on out you can expect to be over some very large fish . We are due for one more day of very hot weather then a cold front and rain is coming . Some of the local die- hard anglers are picking up a few fish on small 10′s with long leaders . EJ and guest landed a nice grilse yesterday at Big Murphy on a small Undertaker .

Big water on the Miramichi
Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Miramichi Fall Salmon FishingWhat began as a nice little 10 inch raise on Friday ended up being approximately 20 inches of water by this morning . The river is also very dirty so the big fly’s are coming out . Lucky for us in the McNamee area with our many islands and a number of pools that fish best in high water , this big water does not kill the fishing completely . As soon as the dirt clears out a bit and the water begins to drop we will be into fish . Our 28 foot cedar strip jet propelled canoe is a real asset for getting anglers to the best spots and our guides know all the tricks on how to adapt to these conditions . This is exactly what we like to see coming into the fall season , high water , cool temps and a long range weather forecast that looks like it was written by a lodge owner .
