Miramichi Fall fishing just around the corner
Friday, August 31st, 2007

We have been blessed with near perfect river conditions for most of the summer and with this cool temperature and another raise of water this morning to help us out we are positioned to welcome the fall run any day now . The water came up overnite here in McNamee app. 6 inches , and showers are called for through till Saturday .The last four days has been a little too sunny and warm resulting in slow fishing but the weather forecast for the next ten days is most encouraging. Our biggest salmon of the season in 05 was a 32 pound hen taken on Sept 10th .

Miramichi – 10 raise in water and cool temps
Sunday, August 26th, 2007

The ideal fishing conditions continue at Wilson’s on the Miramichi . The river is up again app 10 inches and the water temperature is cool this morning . Fishing is a little slow between the rains but there is a decent number of new fish still moving . The older ( June & July ) fish are providing dry fly fishermen some great action as well . We are seeing a few big salmon ( 15 – 20 pound ) but most of the action is coming from grilse .

Miramichi Salmon FishingDear Keith and Bonnie,
We’re hooked!
Thanks to our passionate fishing buddy, Dawson Hovey [a native NB’er], we not only met both of you and your equally warm, friendly, fabulous staff but also experienced the fun and challenge of flyfishing and the peace and serenity of the beautiful Miramichi.
What a week it was! As you said in your report, “perfect weather, perfect water [and I’ll add perfect people and accommodations]= perfect fishing” and a perfect experience for us.
We would recommend Wilson’s as a first class operation and would encourage not just men but women and couples to consider this as a unique, relaxing, educational getaway. Even though we were total novices, our favourite guide, Joe Stewart, was really patient and treated us like royalty. We learned so much from Joe and have a true appreciation for the sport as well as the environmentally friendly ‘catch and release’ policy of Wilson’s.
I knew I would like fishing but didn’t know how much. Even Dennis, who booked the week for my birthday, is now converted.
Wendy’s delicious homemade baking and cooking made the few extra pounds worth it. The ambience of your lodge has captured our hearts and we now look forward to many more years of Wilson’s Getaways. There’s a bigger one waiting for us next year!
Thank you again for your hospitality and as Dawson says, we’re ‘thinking fish’?
Warm personal regards to all of you,
Dorothy and Dennis Jackson

Fresh run salmon an August treat
Monday, August 20th, 2007

It is not often that we are blessed with cool weather , great water and fresh run salmon in August . We are still picking up at least a fish or two a day that are obviously just days out of the ocean , silver and full of life . They don’t take as well as the early July-run fish but for August we are not complaining . The water level seems to be just now getting down to a normal August level and the older fish are showing but as usual taking slow . They are bumping a bomber now and then , which is still action and the kind of fun that will easily keep you in the game for hours . Rain is forecast for later in the week .

Perfect water, perfect weather = good fishing
Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Wilson’s guests are enjoying great August fishing . The Miramichi is is superb shape with good water and temperatures in the low to mid sixties . Typical of August fishing we are having our best luck on bombers down low in the pools . It appears there are a few fresh fish moving as well , Joe with guest hooked a bright grilse up in the run at Cold Water yesterday and a fairly bright one in Dudley the day before . There are also reports of the same thing further down river at several other camps . The weather is forecast to remain cool so the good fishing should continue . FYI , the best dry fly dressing to be found is a ladies make-up remover called Albeline , give it a try , you will be impressed .

Dear Nathan-
First off , thanks for your feedback to my June 29th posting , I appreciate your candor and honesty . I apologize for my friend if he offended you and disrupted your enjoyment of the river . In his defence though , we were both concerned for the safety of the fish and length of time it was played and kept out of the water . It seemed like to us that the fish was in trouble. For you to take the time to reply to my posting indicates that you are one of the guys serious about making sure that this beautiful river and these magnificent trout are protected for us all . You obviously have a passion for the sport and a respect for the river and fish . I urge you to contact Tyler Storey at 365-7714 to discuss his plans to get the Cains River Enhancement Association back up and running . The association needs more people just like yourself to breathe some life into a very worthwhile organization .
Respectfully yours,
Keith Wilson

Miramichi can be good in August
Monday, August 13th, 2007

Dear Anglers-
The summer season is slipping by on near perfect river conditions so far and a fair number of fish in all the major pools . The fish are holding in the larger pools and with this great water and weather you can expect to get a fish or two on a bomber , or as it happened this weekend , the fish moved a little on the raise of water and wet fly’s did well . Check out the weather forecast for the next ten days , below normal temps , just what we need for good fishing . We only have a few openings from now till Sept 12th , so this is your last chance to get into Wilson’s this season and it looks like we are going to have good fishing . August discounts are in place so call now for dates and details .

Best, Keith

Miramichi has high water and cool temps , again
Thursday, August 9th, 2007

The Miramichi is once again up app. 10 inches and it is cool enough this morning to wear a jacket . The fishing has slowed down this past week with warm temps . The fish are pooled up in the summer holding pools and cold water sancturay . This is the perfect August scenerio with holding fish and a nice rise of water . The fish will move around the pool and actually up the river a short distance , retreating to the holding pool again when things warm up . Bombers are working best and of course small green machines late in the evenings up in the runs when the fish are moving still work .
