Mid July on The Miramichi looking good
Friday, July 20th, 2007

As we enter into the fourth week of July it is still hard to believe the great water conditions and cool weather . We have had three nice rises in the last ten days , thus keeping the fish moving well but not taking so well . It is common to roll a fish once and then he is gone , up over the bar and heading up the river . The fish do not seem to be pooling up at all at this point , but you will never hear me complain when there is good water (more…)

This is more important than catching fish
Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Lynsey & Keith WilsonLynsey ( one of my three children ) and I spent an evening together on the water recently with perfect water conditions, fish moving through , had all the right gear , even the perfect cast , but landed no fish . Catching the fish was the least important thing on our minds , sure it is always fun to hook up but spending time with your family in such a beautiful setting as the Miramchi River is worth more than all the fish in the sea . Dee is now 22 , lives our on her own , has a busy life as a full time student , pursuing a carreer , has tons of friends with plenty of exciting things to do in her spare time but still takes the time to fish once and a while with her Dad . Dee does not fish much in the run of a year but is a natural born talent when it comes to fly-fishing , I guess she takes after her mother for that .

Whats your theory on the ice pack off NFLD ?
Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Why were our salmon late this year ? The unofficial theory from an ASF biologist and others in the field , is that there was a huge ice pack that was sitting in the Strait Of Bellisle , and it was in the mirgatory route of the salmon on their way back from Greenland and was the cause for the water in that area to be (more…)

Good July fishing and good discounts
Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Hey folks-
The “June Run” was late getting here but now on perfect water and weather we have fish . Early in the week was fantastic and now a big raise in water along with cool temps forecast to continue all this week should set the stage for more good fishing on the way . Things slowed down this past couple days after the big rain and dirty water but as the water drops off it will only get better . The next couple weeks should be good and we have the week of July 15th with a few openings . I am offering substantial discounts in order to fill a couple these open slots . For those of you who always say “give me a call when things are right on ” well this is the time and you can’t beat the deal .

Best, Keith

Another good raise of water for Miramichi
Saturday, July 7th, 2007

How good can it get , there is a big fresh run of salmon and grilse and another good raise of water that should keep them moving along . The high water of course hurts the Blackville area pools but in McNamee with all the islands and small pools and further upstream with the large boulders and steep elevation , it is exactly (more…)

Follow up to CBC bad news crap
Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Dear Ms. Sweeney,
below is a copy of my response ( CBC feedback on web site ) to the bad news you delivered on July 3rd . It is unfortunate that you did not get more into the reasons of why the fish were late , followed up with the fact that we are now enjoying fantastic fishing . It is no big deal that the fish were late by two weeks . The small communities and businesses (more…)

CBC News Report on Miramichi run comes off wrong
Thursday, July 5th, 2007

On July 3rd I was approached by CBC TV to do an interview about the “late run ” of our June salmon . MSA also gave their theory on the cold water and ice pack off of the Strait of Bele Isle and how this may have affected the arrival of the June run , which sounds logical to most of us . It is not unusual to have these wild fish that travel nearly 3000 miles to get here to be late by a couple of weeks , whether it is due to cold ocean temps or some other natural occurence . The storey told by CBC came off totally negative leaving the impression with most viewers that the Miramichi has very few fish this year . They are correct in saying that the run was late but failed to report of the fantastic fishing we are enjoying now . I was clear in my portion of the story to say that we do not know if the numbers are down this year till after the season is over . It is no big deal that the fish are a little late . It is unfair that CBC passed the death judgement on the “Summer Run ” and the Miramichi’s outfitting /guide business just so they could deliver bad news . Why is CBC not here today interviewing the hundreds of anglers allong the river that are enjoying fantastic fishing ? Three rods at Wilson’s yesterday hooked over a dozen fish , one of them 15 pounds . The conditions are perefect with cool temps and more showers on the way . The Miramichi is having fantastic fishing this week .

Darcy Price SalmonAfter weeks of perfect water and weather conditions it appears that our “June Run” is finally in the system . A little late but a welcome sight for sure . All camps and anglers from down river are reporting great fishing and Wilson’s got (more…)
