It is most encouraging to see younger anglers like Andrew , and others I have seen but not met , on the Cains who have an obvious love and respect for the resource . It appears that all Atlantic salmon destined for our north American rivers are late this year . Our contacts from other rivers are reporting much the same news as the Miramichi . The “down river” reports continue to improve each day so early to mid July looks good . And , with the cool temps and perfect water conditions at present the fish will be more than happy to move along once they do get here . Bottom line , still slow fishing but we are all optimistic that things are going to improve very soon .

The Cains River Crown reserve Sea-run trout deserve a break and we are hopeing this raise of water will do just that . The high water should scatter the fish around and get them out of harms way ( anglers ). My friends down stream near the esturary are finally reporting fresh- run salmon in their pools and on the line . George C. hooked and lost a huge 30 pound plus hen this morning and a fishing buddy of his also hooked but lost a nice (more…)

Have you ever dreamed of fishing success beyond belief . At the age of 46 I have fished the Cains River for sea-run brook trout countless days and evenings without as much as a tug but I still loved every moment of it . June 4th was no different than many of these evenings , rainy and cold with not a sign of trout feeding . I fished through the first pool without success and was about ready to head back to camp when I decided to try one more fly in one more pool . I can’t reveal the name of the fly but it was not your typical trout pattern , the fish were on the bottom .That is when I hit the jackpot , within two hours I hooked and landed 10 huge trophy size sea-run brook trout . The largest weighing app. 5 pounds . The trout at this time of year are the best of the best , fresh from salt water and full of life . The Miramichi is also reporting good trout fishing over the past few days . The next two weeks should be great .
